Baby It’s Cold Outside!

I’m pretty sure that if 2021 and 2020 were at a party together, 2021 just asked 2020 to hold their beer. Unprecedented temperatures, rolling black outs, I am pretty sure that in the last 12 months I have experienced as many ‘firsts’ as my children have.

It’s no secret, one of the things that I despise the most is being cold and the days being shorter. I don’t feel like I can be outside as much, and the older I get, the colder my bones (and the hardware in my bones) get. All in all, I can’t wait for summer, 100 degree days and the high humidity; I should really consider moving south permanently. The highlight for me during the winter though is our kidding, lambing and calving season. There is nothing more special about watching new life be brought into the world. The problem is, the world right now is frozen over…. literally. That means extra barn checks, lamb cam watching on your phone and cold babies when they come. While our family income doesn’t depend on our livestock, there are so many friends and family members that do. My social media feed is full of these people blow drying, warming up and taking care of those newborn babies so that they have a fighting chance to live, thrive and provide for their families. Keep those in your thoughts and prayers over the next few days and weeks; for healthy and warm livestock, that those littles get stronger, and have more energy. That those momma’s protect and feed those babies and that this weather soon breaks.
